City of Austin Is Standing Tall
Austin is approaching SB840 with a light touch. It has implemented SB840 in commercial location - no industrial - and did not commit to applying SB840 to all multifamily and mixed use residential developments citywide.
What's Already Happening on the Ground
SB840 is changing how cities can control their local zoning. Some City councils are acting to protect single family homes, others are not acting, at least not yet. Supplemental requirements may keep development out of their cities.
